Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is an emerging modality with very promising outcome research.  As this approach becomes more well known to the public, it is beneficial for clinicians to understand why this modality is coming more and more to the forefront, and how we as clinicians may benefit from that knowledge.

This one-day course is designed to offer an introduction to EAP and how it may be used to help people in their relationships.  Whether you are considering becoming an EAP practitioner or you want to learn how to collaborate services for a client who feels “stuck,” this workshop will give you the beginnings of how it all works.

Since EAP is largely experiential, the workshop will be held in both a classroom and an arena.

 The classroom portion will cover:

  •  Safety for clinician and client
  •  A discussion of EAP research
  •  Background theory for EAP
  •  How that relates to family systems and relationships
  •  The importance of metaphor in EAP

 The arena portion will cover

  •  A live demonstration of EAP
  •  Experiential exercises with debrief
  •  Goal based treatment ideas

By participating in this workshop,  participants will have a basic understanding of the theory behind EAP and how it relates to working with families and relationships.  In order to learn the modality more completely, those attending will have first hand experience of some techniques used in EAP.

Participants will understand how EAP can be utilized in both personal and collaborative practice.
